India Vs New Zealand 2nd Test, Day 1 | As It Happened
Tom Latham won the coin toss and elected to bat first in the 2nd Test match played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, and the Kiwis were off to a great start before founding themselves on the backfoot with the introduction of spin, as Ravichandra Ashwin struck within his very first over by dismissing Kiwi skipper Tom Latham via LBW, who was bamboozled by the turn.
A steady partnership between Will Young and Devon Conway followed up, but it was the brilliance of Sarfaraz Khan at short-third leg in the 24th over that caused the dismissal of the former, as he heard a slight knick and convinced captain Rohit Sharma to take the review.
Everything looked under control for the Blackcaps, who had lost Devon Conway for 71 and had Rachin Ravindra batting at 65 alongside Daryl Mitchell for the team total of 197/3, but what started later was the Washington Sundar-show, as thr Tamil Nadu all-rounder took all the remaining 7 wickets and caused the dismissal of the visitors for 259.
India looked like getting on the front foot, but were stunned by Tim Southee, who’s exceptional delivery left Rohit Sharma beaten up on all ends, and India finished Day 1 at 16/1.
